AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State tennis team will open its season Friday, Jan. 11 at the Florida International Invitational in Miami, Fla. The Invitational is scheduled to run Friday and Saturday at the MMC Tennis Center.Â
2019 FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL INVITATIONAL
Iowa State will compete in singles and doubles against Florida International and Wisconsin. Ekaterina Repina, Ekaterina Grib, Maty Cancini, Regina Espindola, Annabella Bonadonna and Margarita Timakova will see action for the Cyclones this weekend.Â

PLAYER TO WATCH
Iowa State junior Maty Cancini enters the season ranked No. 74 in the ITA rankings, the highest ranking ever by a Cyclone. The Valencia, Venezuela native had an impressive fall that included a victory against No. 40 Marina Guinart of Oklahoma State.Â
Cancini notched a 24-10 overall record in the fall while going 12-4 in singles action.Â
CYCLONE TENNIS QUICK HITS
- Senior Annabella Bonadonna enters the season sitting 14 wins shy of first place on the school's overall career wins list with 144 career victories. Fellow senior Regina Espindola sits sixth on the list with 117 overall career wins.Â
- Bonadonna needs just three doubles victories to move into first place on the career doubles wins list. She is also climbing the career singles win list. She has 66 career singles victories, the third most in school history.Â
- Iowa State freshman Ekaterina Grib tallied 20 wins in the fall, the third most on the team.Â
- The dynamic duo of Maty Cancini and Annabella Bonadonna had a team high 10-3 doubles record in the fall.
-Â Six of the eight Cyclones to compete during the fall season finished with an overall record above .500. Three players tallied 20-plus wins, while all eight Cyclones had at least ten wins.Â
