TULSA, Okla. – Iowa State senior Maty Cancini earned a 6-2, 7-5 win against No. 72 Natalie Novotna of Virginia Tech to advance at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships.
Cancini, the No. 99 player in the nation, upset Novotna to set up a matchup Ayumi Miyamoto of Oklahoma State Tuesday.
Cyclone freshman Thasaporn Naklo dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to No. 120 Rebeka Mertena of Tennessee. Naklo will play in the consolation bracket starting Tuesday.
The pair also teamed up for action in doubles play, falling in a pair of hard-fought battles with teams from LSU and Washington.
