AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State gymnastics team (9-7, 2-3 Big 12) fell to No. 1 Oklahoma by a score of 197.575-196.275 on Monday night at Hilton Coliseum. Even though the Cyclones lost, tonight's score was the highest home score of the season, and it will dramatically help their NQS as they move closer to the postseason.
Iowa State had an impressive night on three events, scoring above a 49.000 in vault, bars and beam. The Cyclones 49.100 on vault marked the fourth time this season the team score above a 49.000. Sophia Steinmeyer shined on vault earning a new career high 9.900 and claiming the meet's top score on the apparatus. Bars was highlighted by Natalia Ros Vaquer who made her first appearance since week one and earned a personal best 9.900.
The beam lineup had many individual accomplishes. The season-high 49.150 was riddled with personal bests as Sydney Converse set a new career high 9.900 and Molly Russ set a new season high scoring a 9.875. Grace Woolfolk also become the first freshman in Iowa State history to score multiple 9.925s in the same season.
Iowa State's highest home score of the season not only left head coach Jay Ronayne pleased with the result, but it also reassured him that the team can accomplish their goals they set prior to the meet.
"We came into today with the goal of hitting 24 routines," Ronayne explained. "Another goal was to score above a 49.000 on every event and we stayed on track for that the whole competition. With tonight behind us, we are going to be aiming for the same results Friday against Denver."
Balance Beam
Iowa State had another impressive meet on beam scoring a season-high 49.150. Grace Woolfolk earned a 9.925 for the second time this season and became the only freshman in program history to score multiple 9.925s during their freshman campaign. Sydney Converse was equally impressive earning a new career high 9.900 after recording a new personal best last week against Iowa. Molly Russ also had her best beam routine of the season notching a 9.875. Meaghan Sievers posted a 9.800 and Sophia Steinmeyer rounded out the group with a 9.650.

"It obviously feels really good to score that, but I just do it for my team. I just pay attention to how my teammates encourage me every day and that's why I'm able to perform like this."
Vault
Iowa State scored a 49.100 to open the night against No.1 Oklahoma. Sophia Steinmeyer earned a new career high 9.900. Like Steinmeyer, Kelsey Boychuk recorded a great accomplishment, tying a career high 9.800. Meaghan Sievers also added a 9.850 to the Cyclone team score. In the second and third spots of the lineup, Sydney Converse and Kelly Martin posted 9.775s.

Uneven Bars
Iowa State scored a 49.050 on the uneven bars and the Cyclones have now scored a 49.050 in back-to-back meets. Natalia Ros Vaquer made her first appearance since week one of the season earning a new career high 9.900. Meaghan Sievers continued her great run on bars earning a 9.875. Maddy Langkamp and Laura Burns both tallied 9.775s, while Cassie Diaz and Ana Palacios notched 9.725s.
Floor Exercise
Iowa State scored a 48.975 on floor which was highlighted by Meaghan Sievers finishing with a 9.875. Molly Russ has been on a tear lately and she has scored back-to-back 9.850s in the last two meets. Maddy Langkamp, Cassie Diaz and Sophia Steinmeyer all posted 9.750s to complete the rotation for ISU.
All-Around
Meaghan Sievers had another fantastic all-around performance earning a 39.400. This is fourth time in her career she has scored a 39.400 or above in the all-around.
Up Next
Iowa State will be back in Hilton Coliseum on Friday night to host No. 5 Denver at 6:30 p.m. This meet will be the last home meet of the season and ISU will honor seniors Meaghan Sievers, Kelly Martin and Madeline Johnson following the meet.
