AMES, Iowa – With the conclusion of the NCAA Wrestling Championships last month, the Cyclones have now turned their focus toward freestyle wrestling for the summer. Iowa State will be sending 14 wrestlers to the 2019 Marine Corps Las Vegas UWW Junior Nationals.

The tournament is set to take place April 24-28 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Junior and Senior Freestyle portion of the event will be on Friday and Saturday, April 26-27.
Who
Tate Battani, Tyler Buesgens, Corey Cabanban, David Carr, Hunter DeJong, DeMichael Franklin, Isaac Judge, Charlie Klepps, Zane Mulder, Noah Nemer, Joel Shapiro, Anthony Sherry, Grant Stotts and Brandon Tessau are all set to compete in freestyle this weekend.
Former Iowa State national champion Kyven Gadson will also be competing in the Marine Corps U.S. Open at 97 kg for the Cyclone Regional Training Center.
What's On The Line
In the Juniors tournament, the top-eight finishers at each weight will earn a spot at the Junior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Raleigh, N.C. on May 16-18. The winner of each weight this weekend will earn an automatic bid into the best-of-three wrestle-off with the winner of the JWTT Challenge Tournament champion.
The 2019 Junior World Championships will be competed in Tallinn, Estonia from August 12-18.
For the Seniors, the top-seven finishers at each weight will qualify for the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Raleigh, N.C. on May 16-18. The winner of each weight this weekend will be slated in the best-of-three wrestle-off with the WTT Challenge Tournament Champion. The winner of that series will then compete at Final X in June for the spot on the Senior World Team.
The 2019 Senior World Championships will take place on September 14-22 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
