AMES, Iowa – Make it 10 in a row.
The Iowa State women's golf team continued its trend of making NCAA postseason play, earning its 10-straight trip to an NCAA Regional. The Cyclones were selected to play in the NCAA Cle Elum Regional, May 6-8 in Cle Elum, Wash., as the No. 11 seed.
The NCAA Cle Elum Regional will be held at Tumble Creek Golf Club with the University of Washington as the host. The top six teams in the four regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Course in Fayetteville, Ark. The three individuals in each regional not among the teams advancing will also punch a ticket to Fayetteville.
This marks the 14th time and the 10th year in a row (1993-96, 2010-19) Iowa State has qualified for an NCAA Regional. In 2014, the Cyclones advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first and only time in school history, qualifying out of the NCAA West Regional also held at Tumble Creek Golf Club in Cle Elum, Wash.
The undisputed leader of the Cyclone squad is senior Chayanit Wangmahaporn. The three-time All-Big 12 team member will go down as one of the best in school history with a career stroke average of 73.61.
A native of Rayong, Thailand, Wangmahaporn has 14 career top-10 finishes, including a team-high three this season. Her season scoring mark of 73.83 ranks in ISU's top-10.
Rounding out Iowa State's top-five are Amelia Grohn, Alanna Campbell, Joy Chou and Tagalo Jeeravivitaporn. The quartet have been consistent performers for the Cyclones with all four maintaining a stroke average below 75.65.
Chou, a sophomore from Taipei, Taiwan, has had a fantastic season, ranking second on the team in stroke average at 74.62. Chou tied for second at the MountainView Collegiate, breaking school records for low 54-hole score (208) and low round with a blistering 8-under 64 in the final round to lead the Cyclones to their first stroke play title since 2012.
Alanna Campbell and Amelia Grohn led the Cyclones at the Big 12 Championship by tying for 12th. Campbell fired a 66 in the final round of the Mountview Collegiate, tying for the third-lowest score in school history. Grohn has placed in the top-15 in two of her last three tournaments, including her best career finish at the Mountview Collegiate (6th).
Iowa State enters the postseason ranked No. 42 by Golfweek.
