LAWRENCE, Kansas - Iowa State (5-9, 1-5 Â Big 12) dropped a Big 12 contest to No. 15 Kansas (14-4, 5-2 Big 12) Friday evening. The Jayhawks bested the Cyclones, 7-0.
Kansas got off to a fast start in doubles play, clinching the point by winning the No. 1 and 3 matches. Maty Cancini and Annabella Bonadonna were battling with the No. 61 ranked pair in the nation, but the match went unfinished.
Ekaterina Grib fought hard against Sonia Smagina in the No. 3 singles slot for the Cyclones. The Minsk, Belarus native captured the first set tiebreaker, 7-6(5). Grib fell behind 5-1 in the second set, but battled back to even it at 6-6, before eventually falling 7-6(2).
Grib fell to Smagina in the third set tiebreaker, 10-7.
Next up, Iowa State will take on Kansas State (11-9, 1-6 Big 12) Sunday at 1 p.m.
