AMES, Iowa - Iowa State (21-15, 1-5 Big 12) picked up a pair of win over Georgia Tech (23-18, 5-7 ACC) on Saturday at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The Cyclones took down the Yellow Jackets 5-2 in game one, followed by a 7-2 victory to close out the day.
Sami Williams hit a pair of home runs on the day, and has now hit five over the last five games. She went 3-of-7 combined on the day with four runs score. Kaylee Bosworth had a spectacular outing in both games offensively, going 4-7 with four RBI.
The Cyclone pitching was stellar as well, with Emma Hylen and Tatum Ksiazek combining to shut down the Yellow Jackets in the first contest. Savannah Sanders didn't give Georgia Tech any breathing room in game two, picking up a complete game victory.
Iowa State 5, Georgia Tech 2
Hylen started the first game strong, striking out two and catching a one hopper to throw out the batter in the top of the first. Williams opened with a walk and, after a sac bunt by Taylor Nearad, found herself in scoring position. Bosworth came up to bat and ripped a high line drive over the shortstop, bringing Williams home for the first score of the day.
The Cyclones managed to work their way out of a bases-loaded bind in the second, getting out of the inning with no damage done on the scoreboard.
Taylor Nearad started the third inning with a single up the middle, followed by a Bosworth double to right center field,. Sally Woolpert then hit a bloop into right center, scoring Nearad to make the score 2-0. The Cyclones stayed at it, as freshman Kasey Simpson pulled a ball into left field with enough distance to get Bosworth home on a sac fly.
Talyn Lewis then pinch hit and came up big for Iowa State, knocking a single right up the middle for another scored run, bringing home Bryn Hanrahan. Iowa State led 4-0 at the end of the third inning.
Georgia Tech plated its first run of the day in the top of the fifth, cutting the lead to 4-1. After a solid five-strikeout performance by Hylen, she was relieved in the sixth by Tatum Ksiazek, who finished out the inning with a strikeout. Hylen allowed just one run on four hits in 5.2 innings of action as she improved to 10-5 on the season.
Sami Williams crushed a solo home run into center field giving her home run number nine on the season. Iowa State went into the seventh with a 5-1 lead.
Iowa State gave up a run on an error in the final inning, but the Cyclones held on for their first win of the day. Kziazek was awarded her first save of the year, going 1.1 innings in relief without allowing an earned run.

Sanders got the game two start in the circle for the Cyclones and was rolling early. The senior would go all 7.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts.
The Cyclones struck first once again, as Bosworth collected an RBI on a ground ball that scored Williams from third in the home half of the first inning.
The spectacular work of the defense continued into the second inning, making quick work of the Yellow Jackets. Iowa State went back to work on offense with Sydney Stites hitting a double, followed by another Hannah Carter hit that sent Stites home to extend the ISU lead to 2-0.
The offense would then catch fire in the third. Nearad started the inning off with a double, followed by a Bosworth single. Lewis singled into right center and, after a HBP, the bases were loaded with Cyclones. A Stites base hit brought Bosworth home, bringing the lead to 4-0.
Georgia Tech did all their offensive damage in the top of the fourth scoring two runs on two hits and a Cyclone error. Williams came up with a response, crushing a solo homer over the Cyclone Sports Complex scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning, making it a 5-2 ISU lead.
Sanders bounced back in the fifth, with one strikeout while wasting no time in getting the offense back on the field.
Nearad continued her spectacular day with a double in the sixth to put the Cyclones in scoring position. Bosworth came up with another double that sent Nearad home. Woolpert and Lewis both managed to keep the line moving, to score Bosworth.
The Cyclones tied a season-high with 15 hits in the game two victory.

Iowa State looks to sweep the Yellow Jackets with the final game of the series on Sunday at noon. Admission is free, and the game will be broadcast live on Cyclones.tv.
