AMES, Iowa – Iowa State freshman David Carr has qualified for the 2019 United States Junior World Team at 74 kg. Carr and the rest of the Junior World Team will travel to the Junior World Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, August 12-18.
After winning the UWW Junior Nationals in April, Carr sat out the Challenge Tournament in Raleigh, N.C. and awaited the winner in a Best-of-Three series for a spot on the Junior World Team. Carr toed the line with Stanford's Shane Griffith. The Cadet World Bronze Medalist took care of business against Griffith, defeating him 6-3, 6-4 to win the spot.
2015 NCAA Champion Kyven Gadson also competed this weekend in the Senior World Team Trials. Gadson was also exempt to the Best-of-Three finals after he won the US Open in April. Gadson squared up with Ty Walz in the 97 kg finals. He took out Walz, 3-2, 3-0 to earn a spot in Final X Lincoln on June 15. Gadson will get another crack at Kyle Snyder with a spot on the World Team on the line.
