AMES, Iowa – It is going to be a busy weekend for the Iowa State track and field program in North America, as many of its top student-athletes make their way to the USATF Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines and the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Montreal. Competition at both sites begins on Thursday and runs through Sunday.
In Des Moines, Iowa State will be represented by current student-athletes Daniel Nixon in the men's 800-meter run, Eric Fogltanz in the men's 400-meter hurdles and Kelly Naumann in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. In addition, former Cyclone All-American Hillary Bor is entered in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run, and former Cyclone Patrick Peterson is in the men's 800-meter run.
Nixon will be making his debut in an ISU jersey, as he transferred to Ames after three seasons at Mississippi State. He clocked his personal best 1:47.06 in the 800-meter run this past April for the Bulldogs and has nine career efforts of below 1:50 in the 800.
Fogltanz, now a five-time All-American in his Cyclone career, is back on the track after an outstanding 2019 track and field season. He earned All-America honors for the second-straight season in the 400-meter hurdles, taking 21st at NCAAs in 52.09 to earn Honorable Mention distinction. He also finished third in the Big 12 and won the Drake Relays title in the 400 hurdles. This is the second-straight season Fogltanz has competed at the USA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 23rd last year in Des Moines.
Naumann will be making her USA Track and Field Championships debut this weekend after an outstanding season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Naumann picked up the Big 12 silver medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and broke Iowa State's school record in the event with a 10:06.10 at the Cardinal Classic in April. Naumann does have USA Track & Field experience, as she qualified for the 2016 IAAF U-20 World Championships in the steeplechase.

Meanwhile in Canada, the Cyclones will be represented by Keira Christie-Galloway and Kaylyn Hall in the senior women's 100-meter hurdles and Katarina Vlahovic in the U-20 women's 100-meter hurdles.
Christie-Galloway already has one chance to represent Canada locked up, as she will be running for Canada at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru in August. She will be among the favorites in the senior division race, coming in the with the No. 2 seed with her best time of 13.10 which she got at the Big 12 Championships. The 2019 Big 12 Outstanding Freshman of the Year, Christie-Galloway swept the conference indoor 60-meter hurdles and outdoor 100-meter hurdle crowns. She earned Second Team All-America honors with her 16th place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Hall wrapped up a strong freshman season for the Cyclones by qualifying for the NCAA West Preliminaries in the 100-meter hurdles, recording a personal best 13.65 in Sacramento at the regional meet. Hall finished eighth at the Big 12 Championships in the 100-meter hurdles and showed outstanding versatility by also contributing to the Cyclones in the 400-meter hurdles.
Vlahovic is the No. 2 seed in the U-20 competition with her personal best of 13.56 from the 2018 Canada U-20 Championships. She is the two-time defending champion at the U-20 division of the 100-meter hurdles.
