AMES, Iowa – Freshman David Carr's journey to a Junior World Championship begins Tuesday morning. Carr will be representing the United States at 74 kg at the Junior World Championships in Tallinn, Estonia. He'll take on 2018 Junior World Bronze Medalist Devid Betanov of Russia in the round of 16.
Cyclone fans will need to set their alarm clocks bright and early for Tuesday morning. Qualification rounds will begin at 2:30 a.m. CT. The semifinal rounds will begin at 9:15 a.m.
Carr, who already has a Cadet World Bronze Medal to his name, qualified for the Junior World Team with a win at UWW Junior Nationals and then went 2-0 against Shane Griffith of Stanford at the Junior World Team Best-of-Three series back in May.
During his redshirt year in Ames, Carr showed why he was one of the most prized recruits of the 2018 class. He compiled a 23-1 record while wrestling unattached and claimed titles at the Grand View Open, Lindenwood Open, UNI Open and Dave Edmonds Open. He also competed in senior level freestyle competition, taking fourth at the Dave Shoultz Memorial International and most recently finished third at the Granma Cup in Cuba.
The Junior World Championships will be streamed live on Trackwrestling (US market only). Fans can also follow along with @CycloneWR on Twitter for updates from Tallinn.
