AMES, Iowa - Iowa State senor golfer Tripp Kinney was named to Golfweek's Preseason Third Team All-America squad this morning.Â
Kinney posted one of the finest seasons in Iowa State men's golf history last year, breaking the school's single-season scoring mark (71.08) and earning a trip to the NCAA Championships as an individual. Â
A native of Waukee, Iowa, Kinney led the team in sub-70 rounds (14), top-10 finishes (6) and was at par or below in 28 of his 37 rounds.
Kinney secured a spot at the NCAA Championship by winning his first career tournament title at the NCAA Louisville Regional, carding rounds of 69-65-72 (206). He also made the Big 12 All-Tournament Team by tying for eighth at the Big 12 Championship.
Kinney made the 54-hole cut at the NCAA Championship, finishing in a tie for 47th at the national meet. He ended the season ranked No. 48 nationally by Golfweek and was named Honorable Mention All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).Â
Iowa State begins its 2019-20 campaign at the Badger Invitational, Sept. 8-10 in Madison, Wis.Â
