AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State tennis team begins its fall season at the 2019 Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The tournament will run from Friday through Sunday at Baseline Tennis Center.

2019 GOPHER INVITATIONAL
Iowa State will be competing against Iowa, Drake, Minnesota, North Dakota, Northern Iowa, Milwaukee and Green Bay. The Cyclones will be sending Karen Alvarez, Oumaima Aziz, Maty Cancini, Ting-Pei Chang, Christin Hsieh, Chie Kezuka and Margarita Timakova.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
Friday, September 20
9 a.m. – Doubles matches begin, followed by singles matches
Saturday, September 21
9 a.m. – Doubles matches begin, followed by singles matches
Sunday, September 22
9 a.m. – Doubles matches begin, followed by singles matches
Each day of the tournament will feature players participating in two doubles matches and one singles match.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Cyclone senior Maty Cancini is set to move up the Iowa State leaderboards. Currently sitting at 103 overall career wins, she needs seven more wins to move into the top-10 overall wins in Cyclone history.
Cancini needs one more doubles victory to move into a tie for seventh place on the career doubles wins list and six more to move into the top five.
CYCLONE TENNIS QUICK HITS
Four incoming freshmen will be making their Cyclone debuts this weekend: Chang, Aziz, Hsieh and Kezuka.
Iowa State returns three key members from last season's historic team: Alvarez, Cancini and Timakova.
All three returnees posted an overall doubles record at or above .500 last season.
