Cancini A Champion At Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Iowa State's Maty Cancini, the 99^th-ranked player in the nation, defeated Minnesota's Tiffany Huber to claim the title in the top bracket Sunday at the Gopher Invitational.

Cancini, who defeated a pair of Gophers on her way to the title, earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Huber this afternoon.

In doubles action, the Cyclones finished 3-2 on Sunday, highlighted by Oumaima Aziz and Ting-Pei Chang defeating the Iowa pair of Ashleigh Jacobs and Danielle Bauers, 7-5.

Aziz fell to Iowa's Erika Dodridge, 7-6 (5), 6-3, in her championship match.

Margarita Timakova finished her weekend with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Tiana Glazbrook of Green Bay.

The Cyclones return to action Oct. 4-6 at the H-E-B Fall Invitational in Waco, Texas.
