AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (2-2) rallied to force a fifth set, but was unable to overcome Texas Tech (2-2) as the Red Raiders prevailed 3-2 (16-25, 26-24, 25-22, 21-25, 15-13) Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum.

Set One: Iowa State 25 Texas Tech 16
The Iowa State offense was dominant, hitting .412 for the set. Holthaus and Rhodes were the leaders for the Cyclones with five kills each while the Cyclone block had 4.0 total blocks, with Herrera responsible for three of them. Brooke Andersen wrapped up the first for Iowa State with a kill at 25-16.
Set Two: Texas Tech 26 Iowa State 24
Iowa State were the leaders early, building up a four-point advantage of 12-8. The Red Raiders responded with a 5-0 run to get ahead for the first time at 13-12. The rest of the set was back-and-forth, with neither side able to find a multi-point edge. Iowa State got to set point first on a kill from Annie Hatch, but Tech repealed it with a kill from Samantha Sanders. Andersen's attack error brought up a set point for TTU, which they converted when Sanders and Cadi Boyer denied Jenna Brandt at 26-24.
Set Three: Texas Tech 25 Iowa State 22
The visitors kept the momentum rolling to begin the second set with a 7-3 advantage after a Sanders ace. Iowa State fought back within one on multiple occasions, but were unable to get the score knotted again, as Tech ran out to a 14-9 lead. It was a lead they were able to manage right until the very end, when the Cyclones were able to hold off four set points, with a pair of blocks included in the effort to stay in the set. However, TTU moved ahead 2-1 when Caitlin Dugan got a kill at 25-22.
Set Four: Iowa State 25 Texas Tech 21
Another tight set played out with neither team able to build up a lead of more than one point through the first 60 percent of the frame. It was Iowa State who got the breakthrough as a pair of kills and a block from Andersen keyed a 4-0 run which pushed Iowa State ahead 17-14. It was all the margin the Cyclones would need. Despite Tech knotting the set at 18-18, Rhodes killed to put the Cyclones back ahead for good, with Herrera forcing the fifth set with her fourth kill of the frame at 25-21.
Set Five: Texas Tech 15 Iowa State 13
Things started out in ISU's favor, with the Cyclones taking the first two points and moving ahead 5-2 on a service ace from Enna. Tech buckled down and got its first lead of the set at the halfway mark at 8-7 on a Brooke Kanas kill. Back-to-back blocks from Brandt and Herrera swung the lead back to ISU at 9-8, but it was the last time Iowa State would lead. Kanas put ISU ahead again at 12-11, and though ISU was able to fight off a pair of match points, Dugan eventually sealed the victory for the visitors with a kill at 15-13.
