TUCSON, Ariz. – Lachlan Barker was the runner-up medalist to lead the Iowa State men's golf team to an eighth place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate Wednesday afternoon.
Iowa State fired a three-round 884 total in its first spring event. Arizona won the team title at 850.
Barker got off to a hot start and never let up, posting rounds of 70-70-71 for a 2-under 211 tally, two shots shy of medalist Brad Reeves (209) of Arizona. It equaled Barker's best career finish, notching the 11th top-10 showing in his outstanding career.
Tripp Kinney was seven shots behind Barker in a tie for 17th place at 218. After struggling the first round, Kinney went 2-under through the final 36 holes with rounds of 69 and 71.
The Cyclones are back in action at the Prestige at PGA West, Feb. 15-17 in La Quinta, Calif.
