AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State cross country teams are set to return to the course this weekend for the 2021 Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, a staple on the Cyclones' yearly schedule. The Cyclone men enter this weekend's race ranked No. 2 in the Midwest Region and No. 6 nationally, while the women are No. 3 in the region and No. 22 nationally.
This year's field is loaded with some of the best competition in the country, as the men's race will feature 18 teams currently ranked in the USTFCCCA top 30. The women's race also has 18 of the nation's top 30, including No. 1 NC State, No. 2 BYU and No. 3 New Mexico.

Women's Cross Country Notebook
- The Cyclone women are coming off a strong showing at the Roy Griak Invitational, finishing second as a team behind Cailie Logue's individual title.
- Iowa State moved up in the national rankings from No. 30 to No. 22 following the Griak meet.
- Logue clocked a time of 20:57.9 to claim the Griak Invitational crown. The senior out of Erie, Kan., was in 13th place at the race's midway point before out-pacing the field after the 3,000-meter mark to finish first.
- Logue was named the USTFCCCA National DI Athlete of the Week after the meet, as well as the Big 12 Women's Runner of the Week.
- The Cyclones will be one of 18 nationally-ranked teams at this week's meet. The field includes No. 1 NC State, No. 2 BYU, No. 3 New Mexico, No. 6 Minnesota, No. 7 Washington, No. 9 Stanford, No. 13 Oklahoma State, No. 17 Michigan State, No. 18 Portland, No. 19 Providence, No. 20 Villanova, No. 21 Colorado State, No. 22 Iowa State, No. 23 Notre Dame, No. 25 Wisconsin, No. 26 Connecticut, No. T28 Furman and No. 30 Oregon State
- Iowa State is No. 3 in the latest Midwest Region rankings. No. 1 Minnesota and No. 2 Oklahoma State will both be running at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
- The Cyclone women opened the 2021 campaign on Sep. 3 by taking first place at the Hawkeye Invitational, finishing with 33 points.
- Junior Janette Schraft took home Big 12 Runner of the Week honors after finishing second with a time of 13:51.2 in the women's 4k race in Iowa City.
- Amy Rudolph is in her fourth year as the leader of the Iowa State women's cross country program. She helped the Cyclone women once again finish atop the conference, claiming the 2020 Big 12 title, followed by a 25th-place finish at the NCAA Championship meet.
- Iowa State is one of 16 schools to have both its men's and women's cross country programs ranked in the USTFCCCA NCAA Week 2 Coaches' Poll.
- Senior Cailie Logue successfully defended her Big 12 crown in 2020 and is a three-time Big 12 champion in cross country, tied for the most individual XC titles in conference history (Sally Kipyego – Texas Tech).
- Rudolph has been named the Big 12 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year in two of her three seasons at the helm of the program.
- The Cyclone women have dominated the Big 12 over the past 10 seasons. During that stretch, ISU has won eight of the last 10 conference championships and has had 40 All-Big 12 finishes individually.
Men's Cross Country Notebook
- The No. 6-ranked Cyclone men are looking to build on an excellent outing at the season-opening Roy Griak Invitational. The Cyclones finished second – just one point behind T-No. 3 BYU – in the team race.
- Wesley Kiptoo, clocking a 23:54.9, was once again the first Cyclone across the line, finishing second to reigning national champion Conner Mantz (BYU) by one second.
- Kiptoo was named the Big 12 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week following the Griak Invitational.
- Thomas Pollard (5th – 24:37.4), Gable Sieperda (8th – 24:47.5) and Ryan Ford (9th – 24:49.0) joined Kiptoo in the race's top 10.
- The No. 6 Cyclones will be one of 18 nationally ranked teams at this week's meet. The field includes No. 3 Stanford, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Iowa State, No. 9 Oregon, No. 10 Furman, No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 12 Tulsa, No. 13 Washington, No. 14 Iona, No. 15 Michigan, No. 16 Butler, No. 19 Gonzaga, No. 21 Southern Utah, No. 26 Portland, No. 27 Syracuse, No. 29 Utah State, T-No. 30 Air Force and T-No. 30 Purdue.
- Iowa State Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Jeremy Sudbury is in his first year as the director of the Cyclone program. He helped guide Iowa State to five consecutive NCAA Championship appearances – the second-longest streak in school history – as an assistant coach.
- The Cyclones are coming off an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in March, led by All-American Wesley Kiptoo's third-place finish.
- Iowa State returns five of its top six finishers from the squad that finish eighth at the 2021 NCAA Championships, including Kiptoo, Festus Lagat, Thomas Pollard, Chad Johnson and Ezekiel Rop.
- The Cyclone men also return four All-Big 12 performers from a season ago in Kiptoo, Lagat, Pollard and Johnson.
- Pollard is one of just two runners in Iowa State history to be a four-time All-Big 12 Cross Country performer. He joins Milo Greder, his teammate from a season ago, with that distinction.
