AUSTIN, Texas — The Longhorns scored a goal in each half Friday night, as Texas defeated Iowa State 2-0 at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Iowa State falls to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12 with the loss, while the league-leading Longhorns improved to 8-3-3 overall and 4-0-1 in league play. Iowa State returns to action on Thursday, as the Cyclones host Texas Tech at 6 p.m. at the Cyclone Soccer Complex. It will be Pink Night in support of breast cancer awareness. The match will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
Late in the first half, Texas scored the first goal of the match as Lexi Missimo scored her eighth goal of the season off an assist from Lauren Lapomarda and Mackenzie McFarland in the 43rd minute. With a 1-0 lead at the break, Texas scored its second goal in the 55th minute, as Julia Grosso scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist by Trinity Byars.
Anna Lindgren led the Cyclones with two shots, while Kenady Adams, Morina Suter-Doerig and Magdalena Keck each had a shot. Lindgren, Adams and Suter-Doerig each had a shot on goal. Jordan Silkowitz recorded eight saves in the net, as she now has 100 for her career as a Cyclone.
Texas had an 18-5 advantage in shots and 10-3 in shots on goal.
