AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head tennis coach Boomer Saia has announced the promotion of Kenna Kilgo to associate head coach.
"I'm very excited to announce Kenna's promotion to associate head coach," Saia said. "Kenna has been sensational in helping turn around the Iowa State tennis program. Her daily dedication has been nothing short of amazing. Kenna is one of the best technical coaches in the country and is such a big reason for our program's success. She is very deserving of this promotion and I feel fortunate to have her on our staff."
Kilgo has played an integral role in the unprecedented success of the program the last three seasons, which culminated this season with a 14-8 regular season finish, the program's best Big 12 finish (4-4) and first Big 12 Tournament win, as well as the first NCAA Tournament berth and victory.
"I'm so excited for this opportunity," Kilgo said. "This year has come with so many unknowns and I'm extremely grateful for Boomer, Calli (Sanders) and Jamie's (Pollard) support throughout it all. They have helped me become the best coach/leader and I can't wait to continue working alongside them as associate head coach."
Since Kilgo joined Saia's initial staff, the Cyclones have posted the best three-year stretch in program history.
Iowa State has 17 consecutive home victories and this season won the first matches in school history against teams ranked in the top-50, defeating five of the nation's top teams.
The Cyclones garnered a national ranking of their own over the final 10 weeks of the regular season, topping out at No. 31 as we await the final polls after the conclusion of the national tournament.
Since the start of the 2018-19 season, ISU has defeated Baylor, Texas Tech (twice) and TCU for the first time in program history, snapped a 39-match losing streak against Iowa and beat Kansas State for the first time since 2016 and Kansas for the first time since 2012.
Freshman Miska Kadleckova became just the fourth All-Big 12 selection in school history, earning second-team honors in 2021. She was also named to the all-freshman team, the second Cyclone ever to earn that recognition.
The Cyclones will return the majority of their lineup from 2021's historic campaign, including five of six players that made up the postseason singles lineup.
Kilgo, who graduated from Texas Tech in 2015 after an outstanding career, came to Iowa State after spending the 2017-18 season as a volunteer assistant at Kansas.
