AMES, Iowa – Amelia Grohn and Liyana Durisic of the Iowa State women's golf team were named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Tuesday. It is the first time either has earned the prestigious honor.
Grohn is coming off an outstanding senior campaign in 2020-21, ranking third on the team in stroke average at 74.30. A four-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection, Grohn finished second on the team in birdies with 77 on the season. The native of Coffs Harbour, Australia, finished her outstanding career ranked sixth in stroke average in school history (74.81).
For Durisic, the WGCA All-American Scholar honor caps an outstanding 2020-21 season. After missing the fall season, Durisic returned to lead Iowa State in stroke average at 73.13 during the spring season. She placed in the top-20 in five of eight tournaments she played in and was ranked No. 90 nationally by Golfstat. The First Team Academic All-Big 12 honoree tied for 36th at the NCAA Stanford Regional to lead the Cyclones.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
