Cyclones Fall 4-0 to #13 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The 13^th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers downed Iowa State 4-0 Friday night in the Big 12 soccer opener for both schools.

Iowa State drops to 3-6 on the season with the loss, while the Mountaineers improved to 7-2-1. The Cyclones return to action on Thursday, as they host Oklahoma State at the Cyclone Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

"This is soccer," Iowa State Head Coach Matt Fannon said. "We could've been up 2-0 in the first half and didn't take our chances, so we were disappointed to go in down at the half. Unfortunately, in the second half we were as poor as I've seen us and just weren't up for the battle. We are very young, so we will learn and get better."

The Cyclones had three shots off, including two on goal and one that hit the post, before West Virginia took a shot. On the first shot of the match for the Mountaineers, Lauren Segalla found the back of the net off an assist from Isabella Sibley in the 28^th minute. Early in the second half, Sibley picked up her second assist, as Juliana Lynch scored in the 52^nd minute. In the 63^rd minute, Maya McCutcheon found Segalla for her second goal of the match. The final West Virginia goal came from AJ Rodriquez in the 77^th minute.

Morina Suter-Doerig led the Cyclones with a pair of shots, while Lauren McConnell, Claudia Najera and Magdalena Keck each had one. Both of Suter-Doerig's shots were on goal, as was Najera's. Jordan Silkowitz recorded six saves in net, as she dropped to 2-5 on the season.

West Virginia had a 16-5 advantage in shots, including 11-3 in shots on goal.
