AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (14-7, 6-2 Big 12) swept Texas Tech (14-7, 3-5 Big 12) by set scores of 25-23, 25-20, 25-15 on Friday night for the Cyclones fifth-straight victory. The Cyclones recorded 48 kills over the three sets while holding the Red Raiders to .050 hitting.
Annie Hatch dominated the night, notching 16 kills on 25 attempts for a career-high hitting percentage of .560.
Eleanor Holthaus performed to her second-straight double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Holthaus now holds a streak of eight matches with 10 or more kills. Duckworth joined Hatch and Holthaus with over 10 kills as she tallied 11.
SET ONE
Hatch sent two kills over on three swings as the Cyclones led 6-3. Iowa State pulled away to lead 15-10 on Duckworth's third kill. Texas Tech came back to tie it at 19 on a 4-0 scoring run. The Red Raiders went on to lead 22-20 before the Cyclones took three straight. ISU pulled ahead to win the opening set 25-23 led by Hatch and Duckworth with five kills each.
SET TWO
Texas Tech led 10-5 to begin the second while Iowa State battled back on two-straight blocks to put the score at 10-8. Holthaus served to an ace to cap a 5-0 scoring run to put ISU ahead 19-15. Hatch remained dominant, entering double-digits kills on just 14 attempts to make the score 23-19. Hatch hit another in the second to make it to set point. A Texas Tech attack error handed ISU the match lead 2-0 by a set score of 25-20.
SET THREE
A Hatch kill gave ISU the lead of 6-5 early in the frame. Hatch fired off another, her 13th of the match, as the Cyclones stretched the lead to 9-6. Duckworth and Holthaus each tallied their 10th kill in the frame as Iowa State continued to control. Libero Brooke Stonestreet recorded both a dig and a kill on the same play to make the score 16-9. Finding match point at 24-14, Texas Tech fought it off on a block, but Iowa State sealed the sweep 25-15.
