AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (16-7, 8-2 Big 12) took the victory over TCU (11-10, 6-4 Big 12) in four sets (27-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23). The Cyclones' 16 wins matches last season's total and also matches 2021's eight conference wins.
A crowd of 3,784, the 11th-best volleyball crowd in Hilton Coliseum history, witnessed Iowa State claim its seventh-straight Big 12 win for the first time since 2012. It is also the first time since 2019 ISU has had a streak of seven victories.
Eleanor Holthaus now holds the school record for most sets played as she broke the previous mark of 468. Holthaus takes the top spot on the Iowa State leaderboard with 471.
Holthaus also crossed over 1,400 career kills, totaling nine in the match to now hold 1,404 on her career.
Annie Hatch (13), Solei Thomas (10) and Maya Duckworth (12) hit double-figure kills. Thomas solidified her 50th-career match with 10 or more.
Brooke Stonestreet dialed in her eighth match this season with 20 or more digs as the sophomore ended the match with 24.
SET ONE
TCU led with the advantage of 5-2 while Iowa State got on the board with two TCU service errors. The Cyclones tied it up at six on a Hatch kill before TCU again stretched a lead out to 11-6. ISU battled back to knot the score at 13. Iowa State then notched the lead at 19-18 with an Alexis Engelbrecht kill. The scoring run was extended to four-straight with a Hatch kill as ISU found 20 points, leading TCU by two. Back-to-back Duckworth aces put the Cyclones ahead at 23-22 as the lead changes continued. The set was extended as Iowa State made it to set point three times, taking the set 27-25 on a block by Maya Duckworth and Kelsey Perry.
SET TWO
Three-straight kills put the Cyclones up first. Duckworth collected her third ace to lead 7-5, while the Cyclones continued adding aces as Morgan Brandt served up two-straight to bring ISU's lead to 11-8. Iowa State went out to an eight-point run to lead 16-8, capped with the Cyclones' sixth block of the match. ISU again was the first to 20 points and went on to seal the match lead of 2-0 by a score of 25-19.
SET THREE
TCU jumped out to lead 6-2 before Iowa State fought back to trim the advantage. Holthaus officially notched No. 1,400 with her fifth kill of the match to bring ISU within one at 7-6. The Cyclones kept within two before TCU began to pull away as they led 23-15. Battling back, Iowa State hit two kills and Brandt matched her career high with the freshman's third ace to put the score at 23-18 for a TCU timeout. Iowa State fought off set point once, but TCU sealed the third on a Julia Adams kill 25-19.
SET FOUR
Iowa State won two long rallies, sparking momentum to lead 8-5. The Cyclones pressed on, finding a lead of 12-8 after two-straight TCU attack errors. The Horned Frogs matched Iowa State's seven aces as they tied up the score at 12. The Cyclones took another run of five-straight to go ahead 20-19. The run featured back-to-back Stonestreet aces. Iowa State held their lead as the match was ended on a Hatch kill by a set score of 25-23.
