AMES, Iowa – No. 20 Iowa State fell to No. 26 Baylor in the Cyclones' Big 12 Conference opener on Friday at Ames Racquet and Fitness. The Cyclones fall to 11-1 overall and 0-1 in conference action, while the Bears improve to 11-5 overall and 3-0 in Big 12 play.
The Bears took the doubles point behind wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Sofia Cabezas and Miska Kadleckova beat Baylor's AC Zamburek and Anita Sahdiieva, 6-3, for ISU's only win.
Baylor then went up 2-0 with a win at No. 4 singles by the nation's 123-ranked Alina Shcerbinina over Anna Supapitch Kuearum, 6-1, 6-4.
Iowa State closed the gap with wins at No. 2 singles by Ange Oby Kajuru and No. 1 singles by Thasaporn Naklo, but Baylor closed it out with victories at No. 3 singles and No. 6 singles.
The Cyclones return to action Sunday when it hosts No. 6 Texas at 11 a.m. at the Ames High School tennis courts (2005 24th Street, Ames, IA).
