No. 20 Cyclones Fall To No. 6 Texas

AMES, Iowa - No. 20 Iowa State fell to No. 6 Texas by a score of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Longhorns improved to 13-3 on the season and 4-0 in Big 12 play, while the Cyclones fell to 11-2 and 0-2 in Big 12 play. Iowa State's only two losses this season have come against top-30Â opponents.
In doubles play, Iowa State kept things close at the start, taking early leads at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before the reigning national champions eventually took over. Texas won by a score of 6-2 at courts one and two to take the doubles point.
The Longhorns continued to press the Cyclones in singles action, winning in straight sets at courts No. 6 and No. 1 to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Chie Kezuka won at No. 5 singles to put Iowa State on the board, but Texas responded by winning at court three, clinching the match for the Longhorns.
The teams agreed to play out the remaining singles matches, both of which Texas won in three sets.
Iowa State will continue Big 12 play in Texas next weekend, where they'll face No. 41 Texas Tech and TCU on the road.
