LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 28 Iowa State fell on the road to No. 34 Texas Tech Friday night, 4-2. The Cyclones drop to 11-3 on the season and 0-3 in Big 12 play while the Lady Raiders improve to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the Big 12.
The Cyclones got off to a slow start in doubles play, falling behind early on courts one and two. Texas Tech eventually won at No. 1 doubles, but Iowa State responded with a 6-3 win by the No. 3 pairing of Ange Oby Kajuru and Chie Kezuka at court three, meaning the doubles point would be decided at court two.
After being down, 0-4, midway through the match, Sofia Cabezas and Miska Kadleckova battled back to tie the Lady Raider pairing of Cristina Tiglea and Margarita Skriabina at 4-4. Despite the valiant effort, the No. 2 pairing couldn't complete the comeback, losing, 4-6, giving Texas Tech the doubles point.
The Lady Raiders kept their momentum going in singles action, taking the first set in four out of six matches. Texas Tech took a 3-0 lead with wins at No. 6 and No. 4 singles, but Chie Kezuka kept the Cyclones alive, winning 6-2, 6-4 at court five to stay unbeaten in singles this spring.
No. 68Â Thasaporn Naklo, helped the Cyclones close the gap to 3-2 with a ranked win over No. 24 Margarita Skriabina at No. 1 singles, but Texas Tech was able to close out the match with a win in a three-set battle at court two.
Iowa State is back in action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. to play TCU in Fort Worth.
