No. 28 Iowa State Beats No. 75 TCU for Sixth Ranked Win

FORT WORTH, Texas - No. 28 Iowa State defeated No. 75 TCU, 6-1, Sunday afternoon to earn its first Big 12 win of the season. It was the sixth ranked victory of the spring for the Cyclones, who improved to 12-3 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs fall to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
Iowa State, which beat TCU in Fort Worth for the first time in series history, came out hot in doubles play, taking 3-0 leads at courts one and two and a 3-1 lead at court three. The No. 1 pairing of Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh were the first to down their opponent, swiftly beating Alisa Soloveva and Aleksa Cveticancin, 6-1.
The Horned Frogs battled to close the gap to 5-4 on courts two and three, but the Cyclones proved too much. Ange Oby Kajuru and Chie Kezuka ended TCU's comeback attempt with a 6-4 win over Jade Otway and Stevie Kennedy at the No. 3 slot to give Iowa State the doubles point.Â
The Cyclones got off to a fast start in singles play as well, winning the first set in four out of six matches. Sofia Cabezas was the first to add to Iowa State's lead, dominating Helena Narmont, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 singles. Anna Supapitch Kuearum quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jade Otway at court four to give the Cyclones a commanding 3-0 lead.
Ange Oby Kajuru was able to clinch the match for Iowa State with another straight-set win over TCU's Mercedes Aristegui at No. 2 singles. After the teams agreed to play out the remaining matches, Miska Kadleckova added the Cyclones' fourth straight-set singles victory of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win at court three.
In the only three-set match of the day, Chie Kezuka grinded out a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7) win over Isabel Pascual to win her 13th-straight singles match and remain undefeated in dual play.
Iowa State will be back on the road next weekend for matches against Big 12 rivals Kansas State and Kansas.
