WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Iowa State improved to 9-0 this season with a 6-1 win at William & Mary on Sunday afternoon at Mackesy Tennis Center. The 9-0 start is the best in school history for the Cyclones. William & Mary falls to 3-6 this season.
Iowa State won the doubles point for the ninth time in as many matches this season to jump out to an early lead. Sofia Cabezas and Miska Kadleckova rolled to a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles and Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh won 6-4 to give ISU the 1-0 advantage.
Cabezas then made quick work at No. 6 singles, beating William and Mary's Emma Fernald, 6-3, 6-4.
On the fourth court, freshman Anna Supapitch Kuearum rallied for the 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 6-2 win against Raffaela Alhach as ISU extended its lead to 3-0.
It was another comeback, this one by Chie Kezuka at No. 5 singles, that cemented the victory for the Cyclones. Kezuka dropped the first set, 7-5, but won 6-3, 6-4 in the next two as ISU claimed the win to stay undefeated.
Ange Oby Kajuru and Miska Kadleckova also picked up hard-fought three-set victories for the Cyclones.
ISU returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. when it hosts Wisconsin at Life Time Fitness in Urbandale, Iowa.
