No. 26 Iowa State Falls at Home to No. 2 Oklahoma

AMES, Iowa - No. 26 Iowa State (14-4, 3-4) fell to No. 2 Oklahoma (22-1, 7-0) by a score of 5-2 at Ames Racquet and Fitness on Friday evening. It's just the fourth loss of the season for the Cyclones, all of which have come against top-35 opponents.Â
Oklahoma came out hot in doubles play, quickly taking the win at court one, but Iowa State was able to respond. At No. 3 doubles, Chie Kezuka and Ange Oby Kajuru downed the Sooner pairing of Dana Guzman and Anchisa Chanta for their 13th win together this season. Despite a strong effort from Miska Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas, Oklahoma was able to pull away on court two to secure the doubles point for the Sooners.
Oklahoma carried its momentum into singles action taking early leads in the first four matches, but Iowa State would not back down. Ange Oby Kajuru and Thasaporn Naklo, both battling top-45 opponents, responded to losing their first set by dominating the second set. Naklo was able to complete the comeback, beating No. 41 Carmen Corley in the deciding third set to put the Cyclones on the board.
Kajuru fought hard in her first-ever match at No. 1 singles but came up just short, losing to the 17th-ranked player in the country, Layne Sleeth. Miska Kadleckova also played a tough three-setter but eventually fell to Oklahoma's Chanta, clinching the match for the Sooners.
The remaining singles matches were played out, giving the Cyclones an opportunity to add historic wins. Chie Kezuka beat Oklahoma's Pisareva in straight sets, setting a new school record for wins at No. 5 singles in the process. The victory also extends her singles winning streak to 16-straight matches.
The Cyclones will be back in action at the Ames High School courts on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. for a match against No. 12 Oklahoma State.
