No. 26 Cyclones Fall 4-3 To No. 12 Oklahoma State

AMES, Iowa – No. 26 Iowa State fell to No. 12 Oklahoma State, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Ames High School Tennis Courts. The Cyclones drop to 14-5 overall and 3-5 in Big 12 action, while OSU improves to 16-3 overall and 7-1 in league play.

It was back-and-forth the entire day, however Oklahoma State's Martina Zerulo was able to secure the victory with a tiebreaker three-set win over Miska Kadleckova, giving the Cowgirls the go ahead point.

Iowa State started the day off strong over Oklahoma State, earning the doubles point by way of a tiebreaker win from Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas on court two. Although Thesaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh came up short on court one with a 3-6 loss, Ange Oby Kajuru and Chie Kezuka would prove to be too much for their opponents, finishing the match with a 6-4 win.

Entering singles play with a lead, Iowa State struggled to build on their momentum. Naklo would be the first to earn a point for the Cyclones in singles with commanding 6-4, 6-3 victories over No. 26 ranked Mananchaya Sawangkaew.

Iowa State would then lose three straight singles points, after Anna Supapitch Kuearum, Kezuka, and Cabezas all fell to their opponents.

The match of the day would prove to be on court three, where Kadleckova took on Oklahoma State's Zerulo. Kadleckova struggled to get going early resulting in Zerulo taking set one. However, Kadleckova would turn it around and take set two. The third set was hotly contested, and Zerulo would force it into a tiebreaker where she would eventually go on to take the point for Oklahoma State.

Kajuru joined Naklo in picking up a ranked win, beating No. 26 Lisa Rioux, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

Looking ahead, Iowa State will be back at home Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m. against West Virginia for their final meet of the regular season.
