FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Iowa State track and field added one more entry to its travel roster for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the NCAA West Preliminaries. Emily March will be headed to Eugene in the women's discus, battling through the field to earn her first NCAA Championships appearance.
Iowa State will have six entries at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon from June 8-11. In addition to March in the women's discus, the Cyclones will have five men's contestants in Ryan Ford (5,000m run), Cebastian Gentil (800m run), Jason Gomez (800m run), Kevin Sakson (discus) and Nehemia Too (1,500m run).
For Emily March, she took her time building into her series. Her first throw of 165-3 (50.38m) saw her in 2th place after round one, but the Livermore, California native stepped up big time on her second throw, going 181-3 (55.24m) to move up into the top-10. March was in 10th heading into her final throw and was able to move back up a spot to ninth with her 182-11 (55.76m). Though she would go back down to 10th, her spot to Eugene was secured with her final two throws.
March is a first-time NCAA Championships qualifiers and it marks the first time the Cyclones have had an NCAA Outdoor Championships women's discus qualifier since Susan Sherman made it in 2003.
In the 3,000m steeplechase, Janette Schraft left everything on the track in her effort to get to the NCAA Championships, clocking a huge personal best of 10:11.17 to finish in 14th place overall.
Kaylyn Hall closed out her season by matching her all-conditions personal best in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing 19th in 13.22w. Hall ran a wind-legal 13.22 at the Big 12 Championships two weeks ago.
