Carr To Wrestle For National Team Spot at Final X

AMES, Iowa - David Carr will wrestle in the second of two true third matches Friday at Final X in Stillwater, Okla. at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Wrestling will begin at 12:30 p.m. and Carr's match at 74 kg against Joey Lavallee (Lehigh Valley WC/TMWC) will be streamed live on FloWrestling.

The match will determine the No. 3 athlete on USA Wrestling's 2022-23 National Team.

True third matches are held after the World Team Trials (WTT) Challenge Tournament in weight classes where a world medalist has previously qualified for Final X, and when the runner-up at the WTT Challenge Tournament did not wrestle against the third-place finisher.

No. 4 seeded Carr placed third at the WTT Challenge Tournament two weekends ago to earn his opportunity at Final X. After falling in the semifinals to top-seeded and eventual champion Jason Nolf, Carr secured back-to-back wins against No. 2 Joshua Shields and No. 3 Thomas Gantt to earn third place in the challenge tournament.
