STILLWATER, Okla. - David Carr looked like his usual self as he earned a technical fall over Joey Lavallee to secure the third spot on the U.S. Senior National Team at 74 kg. Carr defeated Lavallee, 16-6 (4:57), Friday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Carr was the aggressor early and managed to take a 3-0 advantage into the break, but a takedown and turn for Lavallee put Carr down by a point, 4-3, right out of the break. Carr responded and came out on the right side of a takedown, scramble situation and challenge to go up 10-6 soon after. Two more takedowns and a turn for Carr would seal the deal, 16-6, in 4:57.
Carr is now eligible for National Team support, including financial support, training opportunities and competition opportunities. With the victory, the Cyclone standout also earned a spot on the U23 World Team and has the option to compete at the U23 World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain Oct. 17-23.
"I'm super excited about making the national team," Carr said. "I'm even more excited to represent the United States for the U23 spot. All Glory to God."
Carr joins Kyle Dake and Jason Nolf on the national team at 74 kg. Dake and Nolf will wrestle at Final X New York June 8 to determine the top spot for the weight class.
