LUBBOCK, Texas – Iowa State's strong run at the ITF West Texas Pro Tennis Open came to an end Friday afternoon.
Thasaporn Naklo fell to former Florida player McCartney Kessler in a three-set match in the quarterfinals. Naklo won the opening set 6-2, but Kessler rallied to take the next two sets by 6-3 scores.
In doubles action, Ange Oby Kajuru and Anna Supapitch Kuearum pushed the top-seeded doubles pairing of Chieh-Yu Hsu and Maria Kononova to the brink before falling. After their opponents took the first set, 6-1, Kajuru and Kuearum bounced back to win the second, 6-3. In the super tiebreak, the top seed in the tournament won, 10-7, ending the Cyclones' run in the semifinals.
Kajuru and Naklo return to action next week at the Hilton Head 15K.
