Kajuru Rallies To Reach Quarterfinals

NOTE: The tournament was canceled after Wednesday's play due to Hurricane Ian.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Iowa State sophomore Ange Oby Kajuru dropped the first set but rallied to advance to the quarterfinals of the W15 Hilton Head this morning.

Kajuru dropped Kelly Keller, who played No. 2 singles at Arkansas last season, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to reach the quarters. Kajuru set the tone in the first set when trailing 5-1. The Tokyo, Japan, native, battled back and cut the lead to 5-3 before ultimately dropping the set.

In the second and third sets, Kajuru used the momentum from set one and was in control much of the way.

Kajuru will face former Tennessee player Johanna Silva, who upset No. 2 seed Eleonora Molinaro in the second round by a 6-1, 6-1 score, on Thursday.
