AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's golf team wrapped up its week with final round fireworks at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. The team carded rounds of 283, 292 and a record-breaking 266 on the last day.
"I was really proud of how we competed today. We knew we could play great at this course, so it felt great to prove that in the final round," said Head Coach Christie Martens.Â
With individual rounds of 64, 65, 68 and 69, the Cyclones fired a 14-under team score to break the lowest 18-hole round in school history. This bumped the team up seven spots to finish in seventh place overall.
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn led the Cyclones in all three rounds this week, finishing second in the individual medalist race. Chul-Ak-Sorn set the Iowa State record for the lowest individual 54-hole score at 201. Chul-Ak-Sorn carded rounds of 68, 69 and tied the lowest 18-hole score with a final round 64 that included six birdies.
"Karisa has brought so much to our team," shared Martens. "She has great energy and enthusiasm. She has added an awesome spark. Her distance control is spectacular and she putted awesome this entire week. I am excited to watch her continue to develop."
Liyana Durisic, Taglao Jeeravivitaporn and Pammy Chookaew all tied for 42nd place with 214 tallies. Durisic tied the second lowest 18 hole score in school history with a 65 in the final round. Her 65 included six birdies and only one bogey.
Jeeravivitaporn recorded her 13th career round in the 60s with a two-under 68 in the final round. Jeeravivitaporn knocked in 11 birdies en route to her 68. Chookaew posted a 69 in the final round, getting back to four-over for the tournament.
Charley Jacobs rounded out the Cyclone lineup with an 11-over-par week. Jacobs carded a 71 in the first round and posted rounds of 76 and 74 to follow it up. She placed in a tie for 68th to conclude her week.
"I was so proud of Liyana for breaking through with some awesome golf. She has stayed committed through the ups and downs of her round, so I was happy for her," Martens stated. "It was great for Pammy to finish under-par today after battling in the wind yesterday. Taglao stayed in the present to finish strong and Charley also had a lot of positives battle back in her round. It was a total team effort."
Next on the schedule, the Cyclones will head to Chicago for the Windy City Classic. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 3Â and conclude with the final 18 holes on Oct. 4.
