AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team has more than half of its roster represented in the 2022 ITA Division I Women's Preseason Rankings, which were announced today.
Headlining the rankings for the Cyclones is Thasaporn Naklo, coming in at the No. 39 spot in singles. The senior from Bangkok, Thailand is coming off of an outstanding junior year campaign, as she finished last season ranked at the No. 55 spot, with an overall singles record of 23-13. Naklo also made her first career appearance in the NCAA Division 1 Women's Tennis Singles Championship last season. She advanced to the Round of 32 in the tournament, just a win shy of earning All-America honors.
Sophomore Ange Oby Kajuru enters the season ranked No. 80 in singles. Kajuru had an impressive freshman season, ending the year ranked No. 107 in singles play with a record of 14-7. The rising star for the Cyclones was recognized on the All-Big 12 Second Team in singles as well as All-Big 12 Freshman Team following the conclusion of conference play last year. The Tokyo, Japan native dominated in doubles action as well, as her and Chie Kezuka would become the first duo in school history to be named Doubles Big 12 Individual Champion at the No. 3 spot.
Lastly, closing out the rankings for the team is Miska Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas at the No. 39 spot in doubles. Together, the pair finished the 2021-22 season with a doubles record of 21-10. The duo ended last year with a bang, taking down the No. 25 pair of Sarah Hamner and Misa Malkin of South Carolina, 6-4, in the NCAA Tournament.
The two was also the first doubles pair in program history to qualify for the ITA National Fall Championships, where they reached the round of 16.
