"She is the kind of person who has so much natural talent that she could be good for any team at any level," said head coach Matt Fannon. "The thing that really sets her apart is her work rate. She is so dedicated to her development and her passion soaks into everyone around her. She has had a Cantona-esque effect on her teammates and been a wonderful leader for the program."
"As good of a soccer player as she has proven to be, what really makes us love Silk is the human that she is. She has an infectious intensity and is simply a wonderful young woman. While we are going to miss her here, we are incredibly excited to see her career develop in the NWSL," said Fannon.
The Fairfax, Va. native started every game this season for the Cyclones and led the Big 12 conference with 100 saves in 2022, highlighted by a pair of 12-save matches against Iowa and Oklahoma State.
Overall, Silkowitz recorded 324 saves during her ISU career and ranks fifth all-time at Iowa State in career saves.
Silkowitz was named the Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 13 after she tied a career-high 12 saves in Iowa State's 2-1 victory over in-state rival Iowa and followed it up with a shutout against South Dakota.
Silkowitz is the second player under Matt Fannon to be drafted in the NWSL. Chelsee Washington was drafted by the Orlando Pride with the 30th pick in the 2020 NWSL draft out of Bowling Green.
