AMES, Iowa – After going scoreless in their last three outings, Iowa State (3-2-1, 0-0 Big 12) responded in emphatic fashion Sunday evening, pounding UNI (0-5-1, 0-0 MVC) at the Cyclone Sports Complex by a score of 5-0.
ISU's five goals are the most in a game since it put six up on the board against the Panthers in 2024. Five different Cyclones found the back of the net, as ISU recorded its fourth shutout of the season.
Sophie Forrester got the scoring started, converting on the team's first penalty kick of the season. Both Alaina Villa and Ava Hancock scored their first career goals in the first half to extend the lead to 3-0 at the break. In the second half, both Megan Walters and Izabella Tejeda scored to punctuate a 5-0 win over UNI. Forrester finished with seven shots, placing three on goal, while Tejeda finished with five. Eme McClenahan and Sara Gavagan had their second combined shutout of the season.
For UNI, Ella Ubben logged half the team's shots as she sent four toward the Cyclone net. Allison Flies was the only Panther to play the full 90 minutes, while both Hailey Luedtke and Poppy Anderson saw time in the net.
Iowa State recorded its highest shot total of the season with 31, attempting the most shots since its 2024 6-1 win over the Panthers. ISU held the corner kick advantage 8-1, while UNI held the edge in saves, 7-3.
How it Happened
Both teams started the first half feeling each other out, as both sides had just one shot attempt through 15 minutes. The next three minutes featured three rapid shots by the Cyclones before ISU drew a foul in the box in the 20th minute, setting up a Forrester PK attempt, which she would convert.
The Cyclones kept the pressure up, sending five more shots toward Hailey Luedtke before punching in a second score in the 30th minute. After missing the majority of 2025 with a knee injury, Alaina Villa scored her first career goal in her third game of the season, capitalizing on a feed from Allison Charleston.
Four shots later, the Cyclones would convert again, as Ava Hancock notched her first career score on feeds from both Mia Sowders and Morgan Goodman.
ISU led 3-0 at the break, holding the shot advantage (18-4) and corner kick edge (2-1). UNI had five saves at the break to ISU's one.
The second half started like the first, slow. Just four combined shots were taken against new keepers in the opening 17 minutes before the Cyclones snuck one past Anderson in the 63rd minute on a runout. Megan Walters got a perfect pass ahead from Gavagan, and with the help of a lucky bounce, Walters was able to beat the keeper and extend the lead to 4-0.
Iowa State tacked on one final goal in the 81st minute, as Izabella Tejeda scored her first career goal to join both Villa and Hancock. Tejeda was fed the ball from Sowders, who earned her second assist of the night, and went back post to make it 5-0 in favor of ISU.
