LAWRENCE, Kansas – Iowa State (6-3, 1-2 Big 12) fell to Kansas (4-1, 1-0 Big 12) by a score of 174-126 after the two-day dual to conclude the regular season.
Brinley Horras picked up the first Cyclone victory and tallied another distance sweep of the season by winning the 500 free in nearly five minutes with 5:01.24. Horras never let up on her way to her third 500 free season victory as she finished 1.80 seconds before Kansas' Addi Barnes.
In the 1-meter diving finals, Joscelyn Buss returned to post 292.20 for first place, marking her eighth Zone cut this season. Her score was just .10 points off her lifetime best. Kate Mitchell and Ally Blumenfeld joined in posting Zone qualifying scores of 282.45 and 267.60, respectively. Cyclone divers totaled seven cuts in the dual to bring their season total to 22.
The dual also saw the Cyclones first relay victory against the Jayhawks in the 400 free relay. Caughron, Goushchina, Horras and Bengtson teamed up to post 3:30.09.
Trinity Kay earned a victory in the 200 IM to clinch team points while recording a time of 2:05.17. She pinched out Kansas by 0.53 seconds to grab the win.
Sophomore Carley Caughron secured a second-place finish of 52.29 in the 100 free. Ashley Bengtson (52.61) and Sophia Goushchina (53.08) stopped the clock in at fourth and sixth, respectively.
Freshman Madi Dohrn landed four points in the 200 back with a second-place finish of 2:05.09.
The freshmen class' strength was extended in the 200 breast as Gabrielle LePine grabbed third with 2:23.58 while Madison Rundell touched fifth at 2:29.15 and Alaina Breitbach with 2:32.90 for sixth.
Kay led the Cyclones in the 100 fly, rounding out in third place with 56.73. Winter Craig and Lucia Rizzo tied for fifth, both touching the wall at 57.58.
"We were overall solid, but not crisp. I'm proud of our team's efforts and winning the last four out of the five events," head coach Duane Sorenson said.

Next up, the Cyclones prep for the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas. Competition takes place from Wednesday, Feb. 22 through Saturday, Feb. 25.
