Multi-Event Athletes Set for Aztec Invitational

AMES, Iowa – Multi-event athletes keep outdoor season rolling for Iowa State with the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, California Thursday, March 23 through Friday, March 24.

Ava Cinnamo, Kiersten Fisher and Sydney Willits will compete in the heptathlon with four events on Thursday and three on Friday. Thai Thompson will represent the Cyclones in the decathlon with five events on both Thursday and Friday.

Willits enters with the No. 5-ranking heptathlon score in ISU history with 5,038 points while Thompson ranks seventh in program history with 7,001 in the decathlon. Cinnamo and Fisher will compete in the heptathlon for the first time of their young careers.

On Thursday, the decathlon is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. CT and heptathlon events at 2:30 p.m. Friday decathlon events start at 10:30 a.m. with heptathlon events scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Iowa State opened outdoor season last weekend putting up three victories and three top-10 program performances. Next week, the Cyclones head to the Texas Relays March 30 through April 1 and the Stanford Invitational March 31 through April 1.

Decathlon

Thursday: 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400-meter dash

Friday: 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, 1,500-meter run

Heptathlon

Thursday: 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put

Friday: long jump, javelin, 800-meter run
