AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's eight qualifiers to the 2023 NCAA Championships received their seeds and brackets during Wednesday night's selection show, which means we have First-Round matchups to analyze.
David Carr is the No. 1 seed at 165 pounds after a 22-0 regular season which included wins against the rest of the top six seeds. Paniro Johnson and Marcus Coleman are both a No. 5 seed at 149 and 184 pounds, respectively. Sam Schuyler is Iowa State's fourth top 10 seed, coming in at No. 8 in the 285-pound bracket.
Below is a weight-by-weight breakdown for all of Iowa State's First-Round matches.
133: No. 14 Zach Redding (15-10) vs. No. 19 Domenic Zaccone (12-12)
Redding, making his second appearance at the NCAA Championships, gets the No. 19 Domenic Zaccone in the First Round. Zaccone is also wrestling in his second NCAA Championships.
The two met on the first weekend of the regular season with Redding owning a 3-2 decision over Zaccone.

141: No. 24 Casey Swiderski (11-10) vs. No. 9 Mosha Schwartz (21-4)
Freshman Casey Swiderski did not earn an allocation but successfully stole a bid to this year's NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship. He gets Oklahoma's No. 9 seed Mosha Schwartz, a two-time NCAA Qualifier, in the First Round.
Swiderski and Schwartz met in the dual earlier this season with Schwartz winning a tight one, 3-2, on a takedown with 35 seconds remaining in the third period. Schwartz battled injury at the Big 12 Championship, medical forfeiting to a sixth-place finish in the tournament.
Swiderski could see a rematch against Missouri's Allan Hart in the Second Round.

157: No. 25 Jason Kraisser (17-13) vs. No. 8 Ed Scott (18-7)
Kraisser is another Cyclone who failed to earn an allocation but wrestled well at the Big 12 Championship to steal an NCAA bid with a fourth-place finish. Kraisser gets NC State's Ed Scott, who will wrestle in his second NCAA Championships after falling in the blood round last season.

165: No. 1 David Carr (22-0) vs. No. 32 Josh Kim (15-14) or No. 33 Cole Moody (17-14)
All eyes will be on the 165-pound bracket next week in Tulsa. The weight class is loaded with three past NCAA champions, another returning NCAA finalist and five more returning All-Americans, including three as double-digit seeds. Seeded No. 1 after an undefeated regular season is Carr.
The Cyclone has wins this season against the other top six seeds and 12 wrestlers in the field. Carr will get the winner of the pigtail match between Josh Kim (Harvard) and Cole Moody (Wyoming) in the First Round. Carr has never wrestled Kim and pinned Moody in 5:15 earlier this season.
Buckle up, this weight class will be fun to watch.

The pair have already met three times this season, including twice at last week's Big 12 Championship, with Bastida holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. Bockman won their most recent clash, however, 3-2 in the fifth-place match last week.

285: No. 8 Sam Schuyler (17-3) vs. No. 25 Michael Wolfgram (20-12)
