West Virginia Series Primer

AMES, Iowa – No. 25 Iowa State (9-2, 0-0 Big 12) now moves to conference play, traveling to Morgantown to open the Big 12 schedule with a series against West Virginia Thursday, Sept. 21 and Friday, Sept. 22. Both matches begin at 5 p.m. CT and will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

Last week, the Cyclones won the Cyclone Invite to close non-conference at 9-2. Lilly Wachholz put down 31 kills at .433, leading to MVP honors. The redshirt freshman hit 13 kills at .650 vs. Ohio, becoming the first Cyclone since Eleanor Holthaus on Oct. 2, 2020 to hit over .600 with zero errors and 15-plus attempts.

Brooke Stonestreet and Nayeli Gonzalez also garnered All-Tournament honors. Stonestreet totaled 52 digs at 5.20 per set and Gonzalez notched 35 kills at 3.50 per set through the tournament.

Sophomore setter Morgan Brandt nears the milestone of 1,000 career assists, entering the WVU matchups 28 away. Brandt has put up 393 assists, 109 digs, 36 kills, 16 blocks and 15 aces in addition to seven double-doubles this season.

Christy Johnson-Lynch is one conference victory away from breaking the tie for fifth-most Big 12 wins by a volleyball head coach in league history. Johnson-Lynch currently holds 192 Big 12 wins.

West Virginia (6-6, 0-0 Big 12)

WVU enters the match on a two-match win streak, picking up victories against Robert Morris and North Dakota State. The Mountaineers also took the victory over Le Moyne, College of Charleston, Cornell and Albany. Hailey Green (167, 3.80 kills per set) and Bailey Miller (140, 3.26 per set) lead West Virginia's offense while Tierney Jackson leads WVU in blocking with 45 averaging 1.15 blocks per set.

Iowa State leads the all-time series 21-4 and holds a record of 9-2 when playing at West Virginia. Last season, ISU won both meetings.
