Iowa State faced the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Thursday, October 10th to kick off the 2024-25 season.Â
The night started strong with a win from the 200-yard medley relay with Keirlyn Mullica, Grace Swoboda, Carley Caughron, and Andie Quirke with an overall time of 1:45.76. Less than two seconds later came in Lili Neisser, Carli Poppen, Emma Kuhn, and Lydia McCluage with a time of 1:47.46.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Corinne Guist won the event with a time of 10:30.11. Miray Abay followed Guist for a third place finish.Â
"Corinne won both of her events with pretty solid times for this time in the season. We are excited about her times and what she can do moving forward," Head Coach Matt Leach said.
Fallon DeWitt placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.78 and Mallory Miller following with a time of 1:58.28.
There was a sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke, Emma Kuhn placing first (58.12), Neisser in second (58.32), and third was Keirlyn Mullica (59.25).
Freshman Grace Swoboda came first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.19.
The 200-yard butterfly was dominated by Miray Abay with a time of 2:07.46.
Carley Caughron (24.01)Â and Andie Quirke (24.62)Â took the top two spots in the 50-yard freestyle.Â
One meter diving was dominated by the Cyclones. Kate Mitchell won the event with a score of 255.67. Ally Blumenfeld came in second earning a 239.77 score. Third place was awarded to Maggie Bendell with a score of 235.50.
Quirke placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.90.
Neisser took the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.73. DeWitt placed a close second with a time of 2:06.41, and Keirlyn Mullica earned third place with a 2:09.03 time.
The 200-yard breaststroke was dominated by Abbi Crum and Anja Peck. Crum won the event with a time of 2:25.50 and Anja came in a tight second with a time of 2:26.59.
Guist's second win of the night came in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.44. Abay followed with a time of 5:16.81.
Caughron took home the win in the 100-yard butterfly, earning the time of 56.71, over 2 seconds from the next swimmer.Â
Three meter diving was won by Blumenfeld with a score of 276.52.
Miller won her first event of the season with a dominating win in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:09.88, almost six seconds ahead of second place.Â
The meet rounded out with the 400-yard freestyle relay with a win from the Cyclones. Caughron, Quirke, McClugage, and Swoboda won with a time of 3:33.87.Â
The Cyclones won the meet 201-94, starting off the season with a strong win. They will face the Coyotes on Friday, October 18th at 6:00 PM in Beyer Hall.Â
