IOWA CITY, Iowa – No. 12 Iowa State (1-2, 0-0 Big 12) fell at No. 2 Iowa (4-0, 0-0 Big Ten) by a score of 21-15 Saturday evening inside a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Cyclones won four of 10 bouts in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk dual.
Adrian Meza got the Cyclones started with a comfortable 5-1 decision over No. 27 Kale Petersen at 125 pounds. The freshman got a first-period takedown and rode Petersen for the entire second period as he improved to 8-0 on the season.
In a top-10 battle at 133 pounds, No. 5 Evan Frost dropped an 11-7 decision to No. 9 Drake Ayala. Ayala tallied three takedowns in the match to Frost's one.
Zach Redding righted the ship for ISU at 141 pounds with a gritty 5-4 victory over No. 31 Ryder Block. Block got a takedown in the first period, but the Cyclone rode tough after a second-period takedown to put ISU in front in the dual score, 6-3, after three matches.
In another top-10 matchup at 149 pounds, No. 7 Anthony Echemendia dropped a tough 4-3 decision to No. 4 Kyle Parco. Echemendia had the only takedown of the bout, but Parco received two points for technical violations in the third period – one for locked hands and another for an illegal cut-back.
Paniro Johnson made his return to the Cyclone dual lineup for the first time since the 2022-23 season. It was a tight match, but No. 1 Jacori Teemer was hurt during an escape attempt and could not continue the match. Johnson won via injury default to put Iowa State ahead, 12-6, at the intermission.
Iowa came out fast after the break, with four-consecutive wins. Connor Euton dropped a tough 12-7 decision to No. 2 Michael Caliendo at 165 pounds. At 174 pounds, Aiden Riggins fell to Patrick Kennedy, 19-4, as the Hawkeyes took a 14-12 lead in the dual score.

In his first match of the season after returning from injury, No. 5 Yonger Bastida closed out the dual with a 7-2 decision over No. 13 Ben Kueter. The Cuban got takedowns in the first and second period and defended a later push from Kueter to get the win.
