FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas - Throwers began the John McDonnell Invite Thursday with the hammer throw, with Zach Verzani leading the way.Â
Verzani led after the first round with a throw of 195-0, while Missouri Southern's Peyton Barton followed to take the top spot on the leaderboard on his second throw with 197-3. Verzani then broke 200 feet on his third attempt to retake the lead with 200-9 (61.20m). The Cyclones then ended competition there after the event was brought to a halt following a weather delay.Â
Prior to the weather delay, Cam Jones stood in third with a mark of192-5 (58.66m) and Garret Wagner hit a new personal best of 184-6 (56.24) for seventh.Â
Ella O'Neall also competed in the hammer, but was unable to record a legal mark.
The John McDonnell Invite continues tomorrow while Gable Sieperda will compete at the Virginia Challenge in the 3,000-meter steeplechase invite.
