CYCLONES vs. JAYHAWKS
The Cyclones tangle with the Jayhawks for the 106th time in a series that has been dominated by runs since 2005. Kansas won five-straight from 2005-09. ISU then won 11 of 12 games from 2010-2021 but the Jayhawks have won the last three meetings.
Iowa State and Kansas won't meet in 2026 for the first time since the 1931 season when George Veenker, whom the university golf course is named after, was coaching the Cyclones.
Last time they met...
Last year's meeting was a home game for the Jayhawks, but was played in Kansas City, Missouri, at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas won a shootout, 45-36.
Kansas had 532 yards of total offense while the Cyclones had 383 passing yards from Rocco Becht, who finished 24-for-37 and tossed three touchdowns. Jaylin Noel had eight receptions for 167 yards and two TDs who combined with Jayden Higgins to make 15 receptions in the game.
SENIOR DAY
Iowa State will recognize 16 seniors prior to Saturday's game. Fans are encouraged to get to their seats by 10:45 a.m. for the senior recognition.
BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN
Last time out, Iowa State snapped a four-game losing streak, the longest for the program since 2022, with a fourth-quarter comeback as it defeated TCU, 20-17, in Fort Worth on Nov. 8. The win marked the sixth-largest fourth-quarter comeback (since 1960) for ISU as it erased an 11-point TCU lead.
Aiden Flora scored the game-winning TD for the Cyclones with 6:32 left, returning a punt 79 yards to put ISU in front. It was Iowa State's first punt return for a TD since 2017.
The Cyclones were outgained, 432-272, in the win. It was the largest negative total offense margin for ISU in a win since defeating Baylor in 2004 with a -193 yard difference. ISU had three takeaways, two interceptions and one fumble recovery, that helped end TCU drives. Tre Bell had an INT and a forced fumble while Josh Patterson, in his second career start, intercepted his first pass. Drew Surges also recovered the second fumble of his career.
