AMES, Iowa – Iowa State swimming and diving returns home for the first time in 2026, hosting the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday afternoon in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series.
THE OPPONENT – Iowa
Saturday's dual will mark the 50th meeting between the Cyclones and Hawkeyes, who have faced each other nearly every year since Iowa State's program was founded in 1970.
Iowa enters the weekend with a 3–3 overall record and a 2–2 record in Big Ten competition, with wins over UNI, Nebraska, and Illinois, and losses to Minnesota, Purdue and UCLA.
LAST TIME OUT – Big 12 Duals
Iowa State is coming off a solid performance at the Big 12 Duals, producing strong performances across both swimming and diving events. The Cyclones opened the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay from the group of Piper Hagen, Grace Swoboda, Kendall Mallers and Emma Kuhn, setting the tone for the weekend.
Individually, Anja Peck led the way in breaststroke events with a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke, while Swoboda added a sixth-place finish in the same race. Carlotta Gazzola contributed points to the Cyclone's overall score with a third place finish in the 500 freestyle and a fourth place showing in the 1650 freestyle.
On the boards, Iowa State saw consistent results, led by Kate Mitchell with a fifth-place finish in platform diving. Jade Hazes earned an NCAA Zone qualifying spot with a sixth-place finish on 1-meter, while Maggie Bendell added a top-10 finish to round out the Cyclones' diving performances.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR – Distance Freestyle and Breaststroke
Distance freestyle and breaststroke continue to be key strengths for the Cyclones as they head into the Cy-Hawk dual. Carlotta Gazzola has led Iowa State in the distance events, coming off strong performances in both the 500 and 1650 freestyle, while Corinne Guist also adds depth and scoring potential across these longer races.
In the breaststroke events, Peck and Swoboda have consistently delivered for Iowa State. Peck's recent podium finish in the 200 breaststroke highlights the Cyclones' ability to score against strong competition, while Swoboda's consistency makes the breaststroke races an important area to watch against Iowa.
ON DECK – Kansas
The Cyclones will face the Kansas Jayhawks in their first one-on-one conference dual on February 6 at Beyer Pool, where Iowa State will celebrate Senior Day.
