AUSTIN, Texas - The fourth-ranked Texas Longhorn soccer team topped Iowa State 7-0 Sunday. Texas improves its record to 6-2-1 oveall and 1-0 in the Big 12. Iowa State falls to 3-5-1 overall and 0-2 in the Big 12.
Texas scored five goals in the first half, including three in the first 20 minutes. Kristen Teter scored two first half goals for the Longhorns, and Kylee Wosnuk added a goal and three assists in the opening period. Texas outshot ISU 21-3 in the first half.
Lauren Field scored two goals in the opening six minutes of the second half for Texas. The Longhorns finished the game with a 29-8 overall edge in shots. Kristina Baumann led the Cyclones with five shots. Baumann leads ISU with 33 shots this season.
Iowa State senior defender Tiffany Belz moved into fourth place on the ISU all-time career games played chart Sunday. Belz has started all 66 games of her career at ISU. Sophomore goalkeeper Karen Hasselman saw her first action of the season, recording two saves in the second half against Texas.
Iowa State continues Big 12 play with a home game against Oklahoma State, Friday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. at the ISU Soccer Complex.
