AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State track program announced the signing of two prep stars, one each to the men's and women's team, today.
Women's sprints and hurdles coach Scott Roberts announced the signing of Meaghan Peoples, a native of Weatherford, Texas. Peoples finished second in the 300-meter hurdles among the biggest class of schools at the Texas state championships, clocking a 43.22.
"We have always had a good tradition in the 400-meter hurdles and Meaghan will be an athlete who will contribute right away and carry on that tradition," Roberts said. "She is a very versatile athlete and may be considered for numerous events."
The Cyclone men will add Chase Madison, a thrower from Newton, to their roster next season. Madison, the third-best discus thrower in the country a year ago, recorded a 199-foot throw in that event last spring. Madison won the Central Iowa Metro League championship in 2003, while recording a second-place finish in the discus and a third-place finish in the shot put at the Iowa state track meet.
"Chase is a great addition to our field program and will be able to contribute to our scoring in his freshman year," O'Mara said. "He has a lot of potential, is very athletic, and is one of our best recruits in recent years."
