AMES, Iowa -- Three former Iowa State track and field competitors are ranked among the top ten performers in the world or the United States for 2003 by Track and Field News.
Former Iowa State All-American Yago Lamela-Tobio was ranked as the second-best long jumper in the world. The Spaniard had a best jump of 28 feet. He won a silver medal at the IAAF World Indoor Championships and a bronze medal at the world outdoor meet. Former Cyclone hurdler Aurelia Trywianska was ranked ninth in the world in the 100-meter hurdles. She had a personal best of 12.73 seconds in 2003 and the Polish national champion was fifth in the world outdoor 100-meter hurdle final.
Former Iowa State All-American Jamie Beyer was ranked seventh in the U.S. by Track and Field News. The Monroe native placed third in the Pan American Games and eighth at the U.S. outdoor championship.
